wild diversity founder receives award from the society of outdoor rec professionals

From The National Outdoor Recreation Conference: Congratulations to Mercy M'fon of Wild Diversity. Last week at the 2024 National Outdoor Recreation Conference Mercy M'fon was awarded an Individual Service Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the outdoor recreation profession. Mercy M’fon is a preeminent leader in creating a new model for decreasing the diversity gap in the outdoors. She was featured in a documentary called “Our Trails Too” which focused on her role in reclaiming outdoor spaces for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. She’ll also be starring in an upcoming docuseries project “ROOTS We Been Here” (by Chad Brown) profiling BIPOC outdoor recreationists who are breaking stereotypes and redefining who belongs in nature, and by extension, who is deserving of the healing that nature provides.

"I am immensely proud to serve our community. This award has prompted me to reflect on the word 'thousands'. It's been thousands of days since Wild Diversity was just an idea. From that initial seed, we've facilitated thousands of adventures and supported thousands of community members.

While this award recognizes individual service, it's crucial to acknowledge the collective effort behind Wild Diversity's growth and success. From the dedicated volunteer staff who supported us at the beginning to the robust team we have today, from our adventure guides who embarked on this journey with us during the pandemic to the field staff joining us this season—each person has played a vital role.

Our incredible partners, sponsors, and donors have been integral to our journey. This award is a testament to the collective dedication and hard work of every individual involved.

This award is for the thousands and thousands of us." -Mercy M'fon

Congratulations, Mercy!
